Had a leaking oil pan gasket on my 1995 530i. No problem, just drop, clean, and replace. Or so I thought.... No idea where those three screws go

Odd....
I know where the screws in my oil pan came from, I also know what that rattle in my top end is......do I dare pull the pan or the valve cover and see the condition.....no

is there anything missing from the crank, or anything else in the block?

Good you found my 3 missing screws, I knew I left them somewhere

looks like they're from the oil pump: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthr…

I hope that's it, If the oil pump is loose, then you're lucky as hell, you risked a break-down.

Yikes. My 530i has been leaking oil the last few months (about a quart every two months) but I'm too scared to find the (likely expensive) source

I picked up this one with some leaks. Parts are very easy to get, and working on this engine is pretty not bad. Likely it's the valve cover gaskets and/or "intake cover" diaphragm thing on the back of the intake manifold. Live anywhere near NYC?

I wish - South Dakota. Mines the M54 series engine anyways. I'm hoping it's just a loose drain plug... Don't really have a ton of cash to fix anything with a baby coming next week
